Another " What the heck is this " Thread
I found this on a fire trail down south a couple of weeks ago and it has me and some mates stumped. I've asked fellow chippies, two landscapers and a fitter and turner so far and we've all come up short.
This fire trail/road is used by cattle farmers, bushwalkers, forestry workers and NSWPWS guys so I guess it could be from any of them.
It is about 150mm long x 50mm wide and the handle is about 10mm thick.
It has " C-7 Diamond USA" on the handle with an indiscernible logo as well
So " What the heck is this " ?
Cheers, Stewie

http://www.roswelllivestock.com/inde...39_454_455_485 and look at the fourth item down. It's a clinch cutter.
Still doesn't explain how it got there or what its for. So a bit of digging around brought this up
Clinch Cutters - Farrier Tools - Stockhoff's Horseshoes
http://www.stockhoffsonline.com/acat...h_Cutters.html
Clinch Cutters for cutting or to raising clinches and punching nails and broken stubs out of the hoof. ... Diamond Forge - Beveled Clinch Cutter (C7) ...
Obvious really and it is the best example of a post WWII clinch cutter I've seen in a very long time I must say.

I guess this is the link ... Diamond C7 6 Clinch Cutter Diamond Clinch Cutter [1529] - - It's Free! : Roswell Livestock and Farm Supply, Home, Farm and Ranch Mercantile but the quoted msg is longer than the message I was replying to?!?!?!
That's quite a trick.
So ... it's a horse axe?

I must admit I was leaning towards something to do with horses but the axe head part threw me. It all makes sense now.
I guess I should have just googled the C-7 Diamond label.
Thanks guys

Is anyone disturbed that the "axe" head is mushroomed over?
Either it wasn't being used for purpose ... or never ever go to that farrier.

Paul,
they are used to loosen the clinched horseshoe nails. The head of the tool is tapped with a hammer, and the nails, once partially straightened can be removed, and the shoe taken off.

Watched a bloke do it a few times.
