Default Jarrah finishing for fireplace mantel

    Hello,

I managed to get a hold of a beautiful piece of Jarrah which I intend on using for the fireplace mantel. The photo shows the newly rendered fireplace, the jarrah will sit on top. I am hoping for some advice (I am an amateur!) re finishing. One option is polyurethane (http://www.resene.co.nz/products/lab...stal_Clear.pdf) which I used in the past on a Rimu and liked the result. That said, I am a bit concerned about the heat.

Having done more reading on the forum, danish oil is also a possibility. Again - what about the heat?

I also have read that the red can fade over time, which I would obviously like to avoid. The side of the room in question does not get much direct sunlight, mind you.

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!
