Hey guys,

I have a concrete stump that needs replacing. It is about 600mm high.

I'm thinking of replacing it with a steel one, but my question is how should I fit this. Below are the options I can think of - but please suggest if there is another, better way!

Option 1)
Chock up the house and dig out the concrete stump. Put the new steel stump in the whole and attach it to the bearers. Given this is now attached, and hanging free, could I just fill the hole with concrete? If so, would the post need some sort of foot on the bottom of in to secure it more firmly in the concrete? Say 200mm or some random depth within the concrete?

Option 2)
Chock up house, and fill the hole with concrete. Get a steel post with a foot on it so I can dynabolt this to the concrete footing. In doing this though, how would I ensure that the post is the exact required height? Just measure it super accurately I guess!

...or is there another way?

Thanks in advance
