Triton TRA001 Router Problems
I have a TRA001 router mounted in a triton table. After it starts up the speed varies and it makes a strange noise that sounds to me like a bearing on the way out. I was told that these routers are known to be noisy but it seems to be getting worse.
Tonight I realised that the chuck is getting red hot after a minute or so of operation. The body of the router is not even warm though. The problem occurs even with no bit in the router and no load.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what is failing? Are there any known issues with this machine?
Finally does anyone know a good tool repairer in brisbane that has access to Triton parts?
Thanks

Not sure if this is any help but here's an exploded part diagram.
The lower armature bearing may be the culprit.

Thanks very much. I did some searching and it looks like I am up for bearings or the speed controller is had it. The bearings would make more sense though with the chuck getting hot so hopefully I will get out of this relatively cheaply.

Bearings are your problem there, they don't seen to last as they should.
Had problems with mine some years ago one month out of warranty!!
Triton declined to replace them under warranty saying they are a wear and tear issue, repair shop told me that the bearings are crap and he replaces many with better quality.
After writing to the general manager of the time telling him that I have other routers many many years older still running on the original bearings and making the comment to him (premium price for the tool but something way less for quality) he refunded the total cost of replacement and labour.
This issue with Triton got me on my toes

correct you are NRB. I pulled the machine apart last night. The top bearing is dry and noisy, the bottom is almost seized!
In fairness this router is 8 years old, but similar to you I have a much older makita that has still never missed a beat!
I am currently trying to chase genuine bearings but I might be better off taking the machine to my local tool repairer and having them put quality bearings in from what you have said.

I ended up dropping the armature off at my local power tool repairer and he replaced the bearings with aftermarket parts for $50. Very happy with that
