Default Metalwork repair - chrome side table

I've got a little chrome and glass side table which didn't stand up to the kids. The glass top is attached to the chrome base by a threaded rod, which threads into a circular piece welded (?) into the top of the base. It's the weld which has split. When I put the piece back in the right place, it rocks slightly, which I think would have contributed to the failure. I reckon I can file it down so it's properly seated, but then I need to fix it somehow. I don't do metalwork, so I can't weld it, but can I use epoxy glue? It does need to be fairly strong. If it needs a weld, where can I take it in Brisbane?

    Thanks for your help!
    Cheers, Richard
