32' Ford 3 Window Build 1/10 Scale
Hello All,
Well I took the deep plunge today and started my 32' Ford Build. It may get slow at times, but right now I have plenty of time to work on it. So I though why not.
First thing I did was print out the drawings I have of the frame to 1/10th scale so I could just cut the parts out glue them on the wood and start cutting. The frame measures just shy of 15" long. 1 1/2" wide at the front and 4" wide at the back. The height of the frame is about 1".
Drawing and the slab of wood I used.
Parts glued on and ready to cut. I drew reference lines on all 3 so that they were lined up with each other.
6" Ruler for size reference
Both rails cut vertically
Driver side cutout complete
Front Crossmember
Quick Mock up
Not really exciting stuff. But I was excited to start a new project.

Bret,
Off to a good start.
And just how many woodworking tools do you have?
And are they full size or mini-versions?
I do have an eXacto set and a pair of pliers.......
Going to be fun to watch you put it together.....
Cheers,
Jim

Hello Script,
I have been asked by several if I use minature tools but I just have standard size woodworking tools. Very grateful for all that I have. He are a couple of shots of my 2 car garage converted to woodshop. Ask any questions you might have.
Well I have a small update.
A quick shot of the steam box I am building. Still have to finish the supports for the PVC pipe. Very basic an 1100 watt burner, stainless steel kettle, and a 20" piece of 2" id PVC pipe.
I also bought a new toy! Now I can sharpen all my lathe tools.
Its time to sleep here. Going to finish the steam box tomorrow and try my hand at steam bending some frame parts. Wish me luck.

The workshop's looking good Bret.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the steam bender goes. Are you also planning a bigger tank for bending larger stuff?
Edit: Just realised that's still the old workshop. Looks good still compared to mine.... Steve

Hello All,
Small update.
My steam bending experiments netted me no results. After many attempts and many different kinds of woods tried I couldn't get the 90* bend I wanted. I'm sure it can be done with many small bends spaced over time but I bit the bullet and changed the design.
So here is the pic I am basing my frame off of. I plan on using the 4 link in the back and the straight axle and stock spring on the front.
I changed the 90* bends to angled. This was pretty easy but had to do alot of hand filing to make all the pieces fit together.
Mock up
I also remade the front crossmember. The other one was rushed and rough looking.
Off-topic. Here is the "Airplane Hanger" as Crowie has nicknamed it. Its 30ft x 60ft with 11ft ceiling in the middle. I plan to insulate it, drywall, epoxy the floors, and have heating and A/C and a full dust collection system. The woodshop side measures 30ft x 24ft. The garage side 30 ft x 36ft. My current shop is 17ft x 19ft so I will gain considerably room plus all my cars will be garaged.
This was my Father in laws dream garage. I helped him build it in 2011. We did everything but the slab and the outside rock work. Unfortunately he passed away before he got to finish it. I plan to finish and use it as that is what he would have wanted.
The far left garage door is 12 ft wide. This is the woodshop side. I built a wall down the middle to separate from the garage side. The 64' Chevy Stepside was my FIL's, the 79' Caprice is my first car. The 02 Camaro SS is my daily driver.
Garage side
Woodshop side. This is looking through the 6 ft rollup door.
I just got all the wiring done. Next step is insulation and drywalling.
