By accident, I found a source for some old and new comic strips; Mutt and Jeff in particular.

The site appears to be USA-based. To Ozzies, "current" may seem to be "yesterday," because of the time difference of about 14 hours or so. Editorials are sorted by artist, and Spanish editions are available for a few. There's something for just about every taste; In the Bleachers may appeal to sports enthusiasts, with or without translation to local culture. Mostly, the site enabled me to renew acquaintance with some old favourites, like Andy Capp and Ziggy, which I lost when I moved from Seattle to Tallahassee about 20 years ago.

For more about Mutt and Jeff, Google [mutt and jeff]. If you're not blind, have a squint at Mutt and Jeff for 2008/09/30/. Even if you are blind (or at least partially), it could still give you a chuckle.

Many printed comic strips nowadays include a URL, where you can access current editions, and sometimes older ones. As if membership in WWF weren't addictive enough, the previous link has membership and login capabilities, by which you can access much, much earlier archives, and post comments if you like. I haven't done so myself (yet), so be careful.

Comic strips have become a cottage industry. There are very few lone artists. Instead, each comic has a staff of writers, cartoonists, inkers, colourists, and so forth. Most of the art work is produced with a lead time of two or more weeks, to provide a scheduling cushion. For timeliness, editions may occasionally be accelerated.

Joe, I know what you are talking about, when I was a young boy, and read the newspaper, in my case ''dagblad de Stem'', there was everyday a couple of comic in that newspaper called ''Suske en Wiske'' and ''Smidje Verholen''.
Boy that was the taste of the day. Unfortunately you don't see that anymore in a newspaper, which is really a pity.
