Grout Sealer
Can you add grout sealer to the grout mix before application or does it need tobe painted on afterwards? I was planning on using some on the kitchen splashback.

Hi Greg I just retiled a kitchen bench while doing mod's. the bench had been tiled before but could never be sealed properly so I did some serious research this time.
There are several additives used in industrial applications and I was initialy going to mix my grout with epoxy because it was said to be resistant to virtually everything. However it seems that clean up is extremely difficult and another product was recomended - grout cure by Davco, it is apparrantly used in commercial kitchens. Although not as bad as epoxy, it still requires a good deal of attention to clean up.
I used the grout cure and although said to be resistant to most things, it still does stain - in short I am not 100% happy with it even though it is some improvement on grout mixed with water.
If you google Davco you should be able to find their phone number and speak to their technical rep who is quite helpfull.

I have successfully used the piant-on grout sealer. Let the grout cure about 15-30 days, paint on the sealer (easy to do and easy clean up). Works well, but usually needs to be renewed yearly. No dramas.
Cheers,
Bob
