new finish for pine table
I have a 6 foot Huon pine table which we eat off and use for general activities every day. It has been finished with polyurethane. It scratches and loses its shine, then I send it to the shop for another finish. I want to sand it back and wax it. can anyone help me with very explicit instructions about what to do? What grade sandpaper and what sort of wax? How do I maintain it? Is this a good idea, or should I keep up with the polyurethane? I want an old fashioned shiny lovely smelling table!

What you are after is a Denish Oil finish possibly topping it up with orange oil, if you like the smell.
As to how to strip the poliuretane finish, I dont know enough to give you detailed advice, I would probably try different ways untill I get it right.
Perhpas someone else can help?

For an extra durable finish, you may want to investigate a flooring product.
Do or do not.....
Just try on a piece of scrap timber first.
