Furring channel or timber battens???
I'm planning on gyprocking over a masonite (6mm thick) ceiling. I don't want to pull it down because of the insulation that's up there, etc. However it has been secured with flat head nails that I'm worried might push through because I can't seem to hammer them below the surface. From reading some posts it seems like a furring channel might be best. Do the channels go up perpendicular to the rafters or along the rafters? (and then the sheets perpendicular to the channels?) The room is 4.1m x 2.9m. The existing rafters run across the room on the shorter length. (It would be a lot easier to manage lifting 2.9 m sheets in a small room than 4.1 m sheets!) After writing this it would probably be easier just to pull them down!!!
By the way I bought a new sheet lifter off ebay for $175 + deliver. It made life easier hanging 4.2 m sheets on another room. However it doesn't work well for wall sheets.
Cheers
John
