Plasma V LCD HDTV

Does anyone here have a definite view as to which is the better system.
I have been told that many stories by sales persons I can't tell the truth from the bulldust.
I almost think it is a bit like the Holden and the Ford argument.
Any personal or professional experience would be greatly appreciated.

I opted for a Phillips LCD and am pleased with the decision. So pleased I bought another for my daughter.

saw a news item today ...fujitsu is not making plasma screens anymore...apparently the profit line isn't all that good

They sure are have a look at the specs on the units just jump on ebay and have a browse on technical specs some of these plasmas suck 600+ watts

lcd versus plasma - the eternal arguement

fro dvd watchers of film based material and reasonable light control, plasma seems to be the choice. daylight watching in bright rooms - good lcd. viweing distances less than 3m lcd (smaller screens available) - if you want cinema type experience at 4m viewing distance, go 50inch and up plasma.

lcd has best following amongst gamers and computer users.

so depending on material been watched, light levels of the room, and distance to TV, that should make the decision for you for 80% of people.

power usage - sony bravia versus panasonic plasma / sq inch yields 160w difference, which by my calculations is 1kwh per day @15c, equals $18 per year extra for plasma versus lcd (not to mention higher up front cost for lcd per sq inch). Me personally, I want whats best for the purpose and $18 a year running cost isnt going to swing me one iota - some people have stricter budgets I suppose.

Bought (actually the swmbo) a Phillips lcd yesterday. More than happy with the result. Can't comment about plasma. BTW we dont do gaming and rarely watch movies. Only got it because the old electron machine carked it.
