Default G'day from Springfield, OR USA

While searching for a link to an old article in Fine Wood Working, which I never found, I found you folks. A great span of topics, could keep me busy for way too long. I just finished my first couple pens, using an old drill press and one of those kits with a live center and tool rest and spur. It worked well enough for me to learn a few basics.
By the way, does any remember a magazine article that showed converting a kitchen sink garbage disposal unit into a horizontal wet grinder? Sounds whacky, but I love repurposing stuff more than buying the right tool in the first place. That way you have a built in excuse for crummy results.
Oh, and I saw last night before joining, another member from Springfield, OR, but I can't find the post, and I don't see a way to search members by location.
