ubeaut wax after hard shellac finish?

hey there -

just wanted to run something by you dudes/dudettes to get some opinions.

im up to the final stages of finishing a recycled messmate bookcase ive been working on. ive applied one coat of heavily diluted hard white shellac (1:8), one coat of 1:1 diluted hard white shellac and plan on applying one more lighly diluted coat (75% shellac). between each application, ive been lighly sanding with 360+ sandpaper.

at this point, i plan to finish up by buffing the timber with 0000 steel wool - the question i have is, should i use ubeaut's traditional wax whilst using the steel wool? how would this impact the finish? will it change the color of the timber?

my ideal finish is a soft satin sheen.... any advice would be much appreciated.

I have not used it over hard white but have used it over normal orange shellac and it is a very nice finish in my opinion. However it is quite shiny when first done, I would not describe it as satin.

My standard finish is a coat of very thin shellac as a sanding sealer, then several coats of shellac, sand back with wet and dry and then buffed with steel wool. Then 3 coats of trad wax buffing well in between. The wax will not colour the timber any more than the shellac does unless you use one of the coloured varieties (I always use natural). It is a very nice look, brings out the grain and easy to repair.

Don't use 320grit between coats as you'll take it back to raw timber. preferably use at least 600 or better still 800 grit and only sand if it really needs it, otherwise all you're really achieving is the ruination (liked that one) of the abrasive.

I'd be doing a 50/50 2nd coat then the 75% leave it for a few days to a week then you can use your 0000. If you use it with Traditional wax. You'll get a glow rather than a gloss if you do wax on wax off immediately, you'll get a higher sheen if you leave the wax to dry before buffing.

Dude, you've got to get some EEE it and hard shellac were made for one another....so to speak and yeah need much finer grit inbetween
