Challenge 2020-21 - Pittwater Pete
Greetings PlaneMakers.
Sorry, I know I'm a bit late to the party but,"I'm in!"
Being a spectator is fine but getting in and getting dirty is more my style.
So.....my plan, as rough as it is at the moment, is to make a coopers plane.
The intention is to include some features of Dutch planes into the design, as that is my heritage. I guess that means some carving and embellishment.
I think I have some suitable timber but;
- I have no particular design in mind yet.
- I don't have a blade. I'll probably need to make one.
- I have no blade making skills.
- I have zero carving experience.
So, let the fun begin.
I have enjoyed all of your different plane builds to date and I'm very happy to join in.
Many thanks.
Pete.

Welcome to the madhouse Pete!
Yay; another entrant!
Are you looking at making a cooper’s jointer plane, a topper, a croze or a travisher?Nothing succeeds like a budgie without a beak.

I'm thinking a 60" Jointer.

That's great. And again another plane type. So much variety. I love it.
Good luck and enjoy the ride. It might be exciting to watch the challenge, but it is much more fun to be in it. Welcome!

Pete
With credentials like that it sounds to me that you are good to go. There are no preconceived ideas or prejudices to restrict the imagination.
60". So you are not going into jewellery box making? Hmmm....Those planes are usually called Cooper's plane and are used upside down on a slope with the timber taken to the plane instead of the other way around. This will be interesting.
Welcome to the Challenge.

It would seem, that some in this challenge, thinks size matters [emoji6].
Cheers Matt.
