Hey All,

I am aware that all modifications need to go through council for load bearing walls and I am having a builder come look at it tomorrow, I just want to learn and know for myself what the requirements are and to understand it.

I am looking to remove a 3.1m wall from a 1980 house with a cut in roof, I have had a look up in the roof and as I suspected it is load bearing with two struts touching down and 2 hangers on it (see pics).

I am thinking that it will probably be easier to have the beam protrude into the room then case it in plaster.

My thoughts would be a 10" x 2" LVL supported by 4" posts at either end (with one been embedded in the far wall.

Having thought about it a bit I have a feeling that it may be easier to just put the beam up in the roof and join the hangers to it and reset the two struts on top of it.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated and I will let you know what my builder says tomorrow and we will see what the options are.

Cheers,
Dean
