if you are getting at what i think you are then no , all it means is that you have to take a skim off the point of the drive end center each time it is replaced in the chuck to get a true center again , because it will be a tad out every time it is refitted in the 3 jaw .
clear as mud i know .

Stuart
P.s. Spindle center (I'll let you decide if its live or dead) runout doesn't effect parallel..... only next time.Last edited by Stustoys; 9th May 2014 at 02:20 PM. Reason: left out "runout"

mistake
oops ! My mistake, yes the 6 jaw chuck would have less of a problem with repeatabilty, that was the crux of my query Mike

So what was the original query Mike?

query
Each time he clamps that centreing tool in the 6 jaw chuck chuck, there will be some error in the alignment of the tool . So he will be getting misleading readings . I mean, he sets up the tool, then takes a concentric reading , then removes the tool - but will the chuck clamp the bar in the exact same position all of the time ?
Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree again

The worst that can happen is you will fail.
But at least you tried.

Mike i think thats the wrong video......It about turning between centers like we have been discussing in the other thread, not about aligning a tailstock.....
