    Default uv stabilising marine epoxy

    hi people
I am wanting to finish a little bit of slab funiture for outside use with 'west system", which is a marine type finish. does anone know if I need to coat it with anything to UV stabilise it. Also if I use it as a casting resin to fill gaps, can I use an oil finish instead? Any help or comments would be appreciated cause I don't have any experience with finishing. thanks.

UV is the Achilles' heel of epoxy; you apply the epoxy to protect the wood against moisture, then you apply a few coats of polyurethane to protect the epoxy against UV. Scuff sand and reapply the poly every 4-6 years or when it looks like it is breaking down.

With an oil finish, your best bet is to schedule in refinishing it yearly.
