    Default Varnish over prefinished benchtop?

I picked up a couple Acacia benchtops from bunnings that have been hardwax oiled out of the plastic. I'm using them for some furniture and they will require a sand(biscuit joining them in wide strips to oak). After sanding the wood it naturally turns very pale. I don't have hardwax oil nor do I have any experience applying it so put some paraffin oil over a test piece and it brought the color back somewhat brighter, which is what I'm after.

My question is can you put an oil based satin varnish over the top of the timber after the oil has been applied? how long should I wait before doing so?

    Thanks!

I am not sure on this but I thought paraffin oil takes a long time to dry or does not dry?

i have some chopping boards that i made, approx 6-7weeks ago maybe longer (my memory is so bad). I finished them with liquid parafin. they look quite nice, but if you hold them for too long in your hands, the heat from your hands "melts' the parafin and you can see what looks like a sweaty hand print on the chopping board, which is easily wiped off with a cloth..but still kinda disappointing. I'm gonna sand them and hit it with HBO...one day.
