Can't buy hardware online in Australia??
I admit, I posted this in the woodwork forum as well, but I know and love you guys over here much better!
I am having a real issue trying to purchase one pair of mirror movement brackets for our dressing table project (originals were taped to the back of the mirror, and now missing.)
Now while I have sourced a couple of local suppliers, I am blown away that for a $3.00 item, the cost of postage for something that will fit into a normal small padded bag with a little bubble wrap the seller(s) are asking for $9.90 to post it. Now don't get me wrong, business is business but this is a rip-off. I can get a similar item from ebay sent from the US for exactly the same shipping charge.
Why are Australian online businesses so seemingly intent on making sure they charge outrageous postage so they don't have to bother with the small online purchaser, thus driving the purchaser offshore?
Alternately, can anyone recommend a company in Geelong that supplies good quality cabinet hardware at a reasonable price (if they are $3 a pair online, $25 retail is a but much, don't you think?) They don't appear to be available at the Big Green Shed or our local Mitreten.
Many thanks.
