Coffee table for new lifestyle
Our upcoming new lifestyle required a new coffee table in the living room. Its predecessor, a glass-topped large coffee table with 16 corners on it, was definitely not the most baby-friendly thing around, so my wife asked for a new one to be made.
Here are some pics of the natural edge Redgum table I ended up with for our home. It matches the rest of the "chunky handmade" style of furniture we are collecting in our home. I can highly recommend the timber supplier for anybody in Sydney - a really nice guy in Panania with slabs galore! He made a custom entertainment unit for us (the third commissioned piece for our house from him), and I made this coffee table to match. The beautiful table top was the remainder of the slab from the entertainment unit. They sit together and I'm thrilled with the result.
I mainly create little things (turnings etc), so this is the largest wood thing I have completed to date. It is constructed with dowel joints between the rails and the legs, and then held to the top using bolts through the rails.
Simon.

I used Cabots Cabothane satin finish. It works well as an all-round finish for coffee table messes and can handle having your feet on it. This is by no means fine woodworking with a beautiful oil finish - it works perfectly as a utilitarian all-purpose hardy finish.
Check out this link. It has his contact info on all of his eBay sales. He has hundreds of slabs and all at great prices.
