Bob,
His name is still on the member's list. So, if he has gone, it must have been on his own volition. I have no idea why he is gone, if he has gone, but I don't have much sympathy for dummy-spits. If he is bored with the forum, or finds that it no longer fulfils his needs, so be it. But I don't see why others should be upset about it.
I have occasionally been upset by other members' comments, but I got over it. And I think others should do the same.

Bob I have to agree about losing members, this is not the forums aim, and I for one dont want to see Jake go.
Jake has had a valuable input into the forums.
But when the mods/admin are pushed to the limit by the Friday Drivellers anything will set them off.
Unfortunately Jake's post was taken as having a go at the way the forums are run.
You can all thank the Friday Drivellers for this. Thanks guys.
I wonder who will be next?

Strewth!! whats the go you mob??
I mean I thought there was a sabattical called on Neils thread about "drivel"? and anyway I cant find the thread now... guess it got whacked too eh?... ah well pile of bloody drivel anyway Well it was IMOP ...I just found and read the note that Jake posted and I must have missed the so called post of "drivel" Stuart whacked him over... last I saw was a post by Groggy asking for "a period of wait and see at least over the easter period" and I thought bloody good idea there oh groggy one ...and so I kept my further thoughts to myself
But let me get serious for a tick or two here... See its just this that Jake posted that bothers me about this term "drivel" as I see it... one person a mod yes but a person no less than anyone of us they can do that if THEY think its "drivel"... in other words if someone a mod thinks what another person is saying is to their mind "drivel" then thats that... whack... yet to another person perhaps a mod perhaps not sees that persons post may not be "drivel" at all... but the very fact that that other mod whacked them means that they must stand by that persons decision... unity you know?... and its too late anyways cause its gone and the persons coped a whack... and so it goes
Yes fellas it bothers the hell outta me.
Let us not forget that for the most part we are adults... we can if not control the so called or potential "drivel" that others post we can of our own accord admonish those people we think are driveling ourselves... at least enough so that the thread only has minimal disruption if we all as adults do something to control the level of "drivel" on the threads we read and post to... A forumite initiated self moderation of threads I guess Im suggesting yes keep the mods!! But let us the general mob of forumites take some responsibility and take the drivellers to task... if we can ever find them that is cause Im damned if I can!
Now... to be clear here... I still even now have not seen any ANY degree of "drivel" or what I would term "drivel" to be of any level to cause such a bloody hoohah on any thread on the forum... I just havent seen it!!... And I DONT go down to the "friday" thread nor to the "nothing to do with woodwork" threads... I only go to those threads that I term "above decks" as I have plenty of opportunity to get into the bilge water on another forum... so all the threads I look and post to are in the main parts of the forum and I have seen NOTHING whatever of what could even loosely be termed "drivel" and certainly not to any degree that would have suggested such posts as Neils that lead to the pm to Jake from Stuart and his subsequent post regarding that pm... I JUST HAVE NOT SEEN IT!!
I dont see what all the bloody fuss is about in the first place... but I think perhaps it wouldnt be amiss for someone to have a bloody talk to Stuart about the wording of that pm... it was rude in the least and threatening in the worst not what one would or has come to expect from the mods here... so Stuart if you wrote that in those words to Jake then mate you gotta get a bloody grip! We are adults not bloody children you can slap and threaten... Ive had a few pms with mods now and in each one theyve been polite and treated me as an adult and there was no need nor indeed any words or implications of threats such as I read in that pm to Jake... words such as those should have you taken of as a mod... but like everything else here that decision's up to Neil
And this is my final point with all this bullshyte... its not a democracy people its Neils forum holters bolters to do with as he chooses... its up to us to treat it with respect and dignity in doing so we can have a bloody bottler of a forum to my mind up to this shyte started one of the best on the net... we can learn teach encourage share we can along the way have some enjoyment laughs and give and take some ribbing we can also write posts that come close to the line of "drivel" were not here to demand threaten or debase anyone... well we could Im not so damned sure anymore... but be that as it may... As I see it the mods are there to be a part of it all as part of the forum membership but theyve taken on a degree of responsiblity and to a degree some authority to adjudicate when someone or something gets out of hand or starts to get that way or someone oversteps the bounds of decency on a post... not to insult abuse or threaten... I think for some that becomes power that builds with every self assurance every word and every step as a mod... some cant help it and shouldnt have the offer made to them just like some like myself shouldnt have it made to them as they simply cannot abide being in that position as it detracts from the enjoyment and will avoid it.... others simply shouldnt be offered it and should know themselves well enough to know that it would go to their heads and if offered if do they overstep they should remove themselves ASAP from the role or it should be removed immeadiately... power even in a forum such as this can go to some peoples heads... just words of advice learned over the years not pointing the finger other than to say pull yer bloody head in Stuart... but thats not my place its Neils so Im not gonna overstep the mark and say that!
People we each have a choice... to stay and therefore accept the rules of play... or leave and go our way... no one is forcing anyone to stay here its a choice or even post here we could just lurk and say nothing its a choice... but at the same time if someone writes a pm like that to me first thing Id do is send it straight to bloody Neil with a few choice words about that particular mods actions and wordage... then Id have to decide for myself weather I stayed or didnt... or Neil would... but thats what this forum is Neils and so he also has choices.
Anyway Ive said about all I want to say on this bloody pathetic matter.
Note... But I reserve the right to have another say if I so choose or someone says something that gets my dander up or whatever other reason I can think of... its my choice!!... mmm unless some git locks the thread of courseBelieve me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!

Ashore,
I suppose you are right that I should have fully examined the circumstances of his going before expressing an opinion on this matter. But I did go to the members' list to see if his name was still there, and it still is. This led me to assume that he was not banned, but maybe I am wrong. Usually in cases where a person has fallen foul of the moderators, they have deleted a number of posts anyway, so it is hard for somone who was not following the thread closely to find out exactly what happened, and I did not try.
However, I have confidence in the judgement of the moderators; I have never seen anyone banned without good reason in the past. I don't think that it is right to continually criticise the moderators' decisions. Their job is hard enough as it is. We are guests here; if we don't like how the Forum is run, we can leave. But we have no right to tell the Forum's owners how to run it.

Gents, the reason AR left has more to do with the wording of the infraction than the infraction itself.
There will not be a public flogging of a mod so please don't expect one. Also, for general information, the mods themselves are moderated, we answer to the admins (in private), not the general forums. It is the ONLY good thing about being a moderator, you get a private bum kicking if it is needed.
The only way to explain part of this is to undelete ARs post, which will not be done. Suffice to say the post itself was worthy of an infraction. AR has not been banned, not even for a day; his 'exile' is voluntary and, as Rocker highlighted, if he was banned his name would not appear in the members list.
I am going to close this thread now as this discussion is generally being held without a complete understanding of the circumstances. For those who will view this as an abuse of mod 'power' or restriction of freedom of speech, that is not the intent.
I think both sides of the discussion have been put, and further discussion is most likely just going to make the situation worse for all those involved.
EDIT: thread reopened following complaint from the original poster.Last edited by Groggy; 23rd April 2007 at 11:23 PM.

Bleedin' shame if all this garbage has cost us the input of one our most interesting members.... Jake will be sorely missed by me at least, as his posts I always read, no matter what the topic.

I will also miss Jake's input and presence. Even though I'll avoid hand tools where ever possible I find Jake's post to be a 'must read'.

Sometimes one has to say, "Have a nice life." and move forward one way or another.
Sometimes, one has to take a vacation from a forum and move forward one way or another. Which is the way that I discovered this great group.
And sometimes it is necessary to just move forward one way or another.

But some cannot tolerate the barbs of life being withdrawn from their haemmeroids, even after they inserted them themselves.
Just a general observation of life and not aimed at any particular member or members.Stupidity kills. Absolute stupidity kills absolutely.
