Please check my tooling order
Hi guys,
Based on all the input I've received I am buying my first set of tools for my milling machine, and I have constructed this list for your review.
Looking for comments on anything that I don't need, should get instead of, or additional items to add. This order is about $600 worth.

Looks fine to me, the only thing I would suggest is staying away from carbide endmills until you are used to your machine, get some roughing endmills instead, and you will need inserts for your face mill. The apkt style fave mills also need a bit of power and rigidity to drive them properly, you may be better off with a cutter with a 45deg approach. I'll find one to show you what I mean.

Looks fine to me. Just double check that your drawbar thread is M16.
You might want to get an indexable boring bar at some point in the future, those brazed carbide ones that come in the sets, seem to chip really easily. Although they can be re-sharpened easily enough.

I would add a set of slot drills.
2 FLUTE HSS M2AL SLOT DRILL MILLING CUTTERS (7 PCS) - METRIC #G98
You will need these if you want to mill pockets or blind keyways.
You could probably get away with ordering just a 5mm and a 12mm but if you might as well get the set up front.
If your budget is tight I'd ditch the boring head unless you think you will have a use for it right away.
And like Ueee said you can probably ditch the carbide end-mills unless you really think you will need them.
Cheers,
Greg.

Sweet thanks for the replies guys.
I've updated the list.
CTC don't sell a 45 Degree facemill so I'll source on ebay or something like that.
They also don't have a MT4 threaded arbor and key-less chuck so I'll source that elsewhere too.
I'd prefer to get most of what I need in one order to maximise my shipping, so happy to add stuff if need be.
Hopefully any new Milling guy sin future will stumble on this list and find it somewhat useful.

I have not had any experience with the dowel type face mills ctc sells, I imagine they would be easier on the machine than the 90deg type. Even my hm50 run out of rigidity at a 2mm doc with a 2" apkt cutter. Of course the vernier barely notices a 2mm doc.....

A fly cutter is often cheaper.
CTC may be able to match a drill chuck with an arbor. They matched a imperial drawbar threaded arbor with metric boring head for me. Send them an email.

Indeed. I cant remember every lathe/wigget on the market and get grumpy when I have to chase them up to try and answer someones question. Hey I'm a grumpy old man lol
I'd be thinking hard about one of these spanners

Especially if you are going to be holding endmills in your ER32(which of course you are)

I thought of that earlier today and then promptly forgot....
This is the 45deg type face mill. http://www.machineryhouse.com.au/M515 I'm sure there will be a cheap one somewhere.....
I'll check the H.P requirements for the dowel type VS APKT, the dowels would leave a pretty good finish i reckon. Has no one got one?

According to Iscars calculator the round inserts will actually use more power then an APKT, not what i expected. However the force on an APKT is all radial, on a dowel or 45 deg cutter it is shared radially and axially.

I assume you do have a dial test indicator (lever type) and holder?

If money is no problem Sam, Just ask Ewan, Stuart, Ray and BT what they have and then just get the same.
