    Default Electrician Help

Hi all, I'm a university student who for an assignment has to make a business plan for a small business.

My group was assigned an electrician.

Anyway we decided that our business would be household jobs in the Penrith/Glenmore Park/Blue Mountains area.

So I was just wondering if anybody here would be able to help me out with a few questions.

    1) How much can an electrician charge per hour in the Western Sydney region?

    2) I assume that parts are charged on top of labour, is this correct?

    3) Does price charged include time travelled?

    4) What is the average callout fee? Does this affect hourly rate?

    5) Is there much work out there for a domestic electrician? I assumed there is because we have a national trade shortage and Western Sydney is a booming area.

Thanks guys (and girls) any help would be most appreciated.

EDIT: I hope I didn't break any forum rules asking these questions.

    Question Might 'elp

    G'day Munky,

I might be able to help out in some .....The basics should be similar.

Though I am in Western Qld. and YES Shortage of Sparks here also.

    1) How much can an electrician charge per hour in the Western Sydney region?

    As much as they like,
as long as they don't price themselves out of work. Here it is around and over $50.oo more like $60.oo/hour

    2) I assume that parts are charged on top of labour, is this correct?

    Yes!
And variable mark-up on their cost to the Spark.

    3) Does price charged include time travelled?

For a 'Call out' time is on Top, anywhere from 1/2 to ????"2 hours

    4) What is the average callout fee? Does this affect hourly rate?

    Dunno this one.

    Munky

thank you for your honesty !!

    to your assignment

when doing your sums don't forget to cost the following

insurance (third party, public liability, some form of professional idemnity)
vehicle operating costs (purchase/lease/etc, its fitout, registration, fuel, servicing, tyres, etc)
holidays (people on a salary get paid, those self employed have to "save up")
    public holidays (ditto)
time to do the business's books
days the electrican can't work because they, their partner, or the kids are sick, or the van is being serviced, etc
hours the electrican is idle between jobs
    the apprentice
does your electrican intend "working" a 5 day 35hr week or something different?
what would your electrican like to earn per year?

factor all the above, and you'll arrive at a rate, then compare it with the "going rate" to decide if it is reasonable.
