Default Best finish over spirit stain

    Hi guys

Have used Feast Watson spirit stain in 3 different colours on a segmented mirror frame made of recycled floor boards - spotted gum I think, or at least some sort of similar timber. The different coloured parts are small triangular sections next to each other and I need to apply a satin finish over the stain.

Had a problem some time ago where the finish I used caused two different colours of the stain to run into each other and blur, if you get my drift. Have put a lot of work into this project and don't want to stuff it up now. Tried to do a search of the forum but the results are too many to read.

I thought of maybe wipe-on poly but not sure if it would be OK. Any ideas?

    Thanks

A camel can work for a week without drinking. I can drink for a week without working. Not original, but I'm happy.

Any water-based finish any oil (turpentine) based finish.

In short any finish that's not compatible with the spirit stain. So don't use shellac or any of the solvent based lacquers. Wipe on poly should be fine but do as test piece first just to be 100% sure.

    Cheers - Neil

Used the Minwax wipe on poly today - came up a treat and no running of the stain. Thanks again Neil.

As a matter for future interest, does Ubeaut make a similar product or a product that would be suitable? I am a real novice when it comes to finishing with anything except basic stuff but willing to learn.
