    Default not so new deck

I thought I'd post some pics of the deck I built a few years ago. It is 6m x 5m.

It is all built from scratch using treated pine for the substructure and recycled spotted gum for the top. Oiled every few months (ok, every six months but who's counting?). No rail was deliberate as I wanted it to feel like part of the garden, not part of the house. It is only 80cm from the ground at the highest point, so it meets with the building codes.

Steps are made from old 4x2s that I dressed up on the dodgy handheld power plane. Really wish I had a thicknesser and jointer for that one.

The other photo shows a screen that I put together from the extra 4x2s that I had.

if that had a patio cover and some latticework it would look very nice.

Thanks Wongo. I didn't see the post before.

Jason - I'm hoping that the plants will grow up to cover the gaps under the deck. I've never been much of a fan of lattice, so I will give it a miss. One day I might put up a shade sail though...

    Good on you, Trav.

Top effort. Should be easy to enjoy a beer and kick back on the weekends in such nice surrounds.

Clearly your SWMBO is different to mine. If I called her for another coldie, she is likely to embed it in the back of my head!

It's a great deck for summer evenings and winter lunches. Makes the Canberra weather that much more liveable.
