Default What do you call the unknown thing?

Given Silent's poll, it triggered a thought ... what do we call that thing/tool/construction when words escape us .. and temper is not an issue!
    cheers

I tend to favour doova-lacky, although I prefer the Latin duvum lackii

I ticked thing-a-me-bob, although I think it should be thing-a-me-jig.

    But maybe that's just me.

you coudl also have the option 'you know, the [make funny gestures with hands here]'.

    The little "Squincinburger"

    defintley a "DooHicky"

"widgets" (aside from the ones in the Guiness)

    "whatsits"

generally when looking for these things there will be references to that small chinese gentleman who lives in the back of the clothes dryer and knocks off all your right socks. Sometimes the small chinese gentleman is falsley accused of many crimes .

Where I live the local original inhabitants call things a four letter word starting with c. It is almost a pronoun with them. Or they call everything a "jesus"
I tend to say a Whatsit

I'm also voting for "all of the above", but I specifically mean "all" and not "any", ie:

    Me: Pass the thingy
    Wife: What's a thingy?
    Me: You know, the watchamacallit
    Wife: Not helping
    ME: The thingabob
Wife: Nope, still have no idea what you are talking about
Me: Over there, next to the doovalacky
Wife: Oh, next to the doovalacky, why didn't you say so in the first place
They laughed when I said I was going to be a comedian. They're not laughing now.

SWMBO had that problem thismorning "have you seen my whatsit" me 'whats a whatsit?' her 'you know, my handbag' me 'in the kitchen'.
Picks up handbag, 'have you seen the whatsit' me 'you're holding it' she 'no, the other whatsit' me 'mutter mutter' she 'whats wrong with you making silly noises?'
REtire from kitchen shaking head in despair.
    Answer to above Whatsit'.

Thing-a-me-jig also, but it wasn't an option so like a couple of others I voted for thing-a me-bob.
