Hi, I think I need help! I removed studs from an internal load bearing wall (without actually realising what I was doing). The wall supports the ends of roof trusses, and the section I have tampered with now has a 1730mm span of unsupported top plate, with one truss sitting bang in the middle of the span. I have temporarily jammed the studs back in place while I get my act together...
I assume I need to support the top plate the same way that one would do for a lintel over a window, only I dont want a beam in my newly-enlarged room.
Should I get a RSJ in a square U section and sort of 'wrap' it around the top plate, or would a L section be enough?
Any suggestions welcomed...
