Very good video of timber getting in WA
Here
I thought this was a really good look at timber cutting in the old days.If you find you have dug yourself a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging.
I just finished child-proofing our house - but they still get inside.

Hi Ozhunter,
Thanks for posting, very interesting.
At the Busselton museum they had a model of a steam winch used in the south west forest. It was mounted on two big logs and had a mile of cable which they'd tow out with a bullock team as shown. The'd attach the end of the cable to a good size Karri and then the winch would snig itself through the forest. When it got where it was going they'd anchor it firmly to a couple of trees and then they could harvest the trees within a one mile radius. They'd build a tramway up to it to take the logs back to the mill. This might even be the one in the video.
Great stuff.
Geoff.

Fascinating! We're lucky to have such a good record of the industry as it was.

Thanks OzH
We see the stills (Photos not booze!) everywhere, but this is the first video/film I have seen. Terrific.
Interestingly at the 1.30 minute mark, you can see another tree being felled to the left of the main tree. I thought "oh dear, this is not going to go well!"
