Default Want to find a picture rail substitute

I was planning to use picture rail moulding in my new mud brick house (don't want to nail or screw to bricks) however I am having trouble sourcing the moulding in small quantities. Bunnings have some (Porta Mouldings) but only in pine, whereas I was hoping to get a timber such as meranti or maple as it will take a stain similarly to other timber in my house. Can anyone suggest a combination of mouldings that will be closely equivalent to picture rail? - thicker and rounded at the top to accept a hook over the top, i mean. Alternatively another hanging solution that will work with more freely available timber moulding? Thanks in advance for any suggestions. I am in a country NSW area not the metro area.

Turn it upside down, run an ovolo bit in a router over the square edge and bevel rear of it at 45 to 60 degrees. This mimics a fairly standard plain picture rail or use one of the colonial profiles

and do the same on the square edge and back

If you don't want to nail or screw to bricks, how do you propose to hang this picture rail?
If you want some spiffy-looking wood, I think you begin with raw stock and a router for DIY.

Do what RWBuild suggested if you don’t have access to other timberyards. You would have no problem sourcing it in Sydney in some of the restoration friendly suburbs

By picture rail do you mean picture frame moulding? APM moulding has a huge selection. Just tell them you're an artist and they will sell to you with a minimum buy of $100. Over $500 free shipping.

No, picture rail is different to picture frame moulding. Picture rail is installed along the length of a wall.

Just as a final note, when I finally brought together the half-splay moulding RWBuild suggested, and the actual hooks (called moulding hooks in the store) I found the hooks pretty much fitted firmly over the top even before doing anything. Rounded off the top front and back edges, PERFECTION. Thanks all

Good solution. I prefer the STAS system, as using the mini rail fitted just below the cornice is unobtrusive, it's not a cheap option by any means but great for modern decor.
