Cabinet hardware
Not sure which forum to post in so I'll start here, Mods please move if appropriate.
I am having a real issue trying to purchase one pair of mirror movement brackets for our dressing table project (originals were taped to the back of the mirror, and now missing.)
Now while I have sourced a couple of local suppliers, I am blown away that for a $3.00 item, the cost of postage for something that will fit into a normal small padded bag with a little bubble wrap the seller(s) are asking for $9.90 to post it. Now don't get me wrong, business is business but this is a rip-off. I can get a similar item from ebay sent from the US for exactly the same shipping charge.
Why are Australian online businesses so intent on making sure they don't bother with the small online purchaser, thus driving the purchaser offshore?
Alternately, can anyone recommend a company in Geelong that supplies good quality cabinet hardware at a reasonable price? They don't appear to be available at the Big Green Shed.
Many thanks.

Try Carrols woodcraft supplies, I got a set off them a couple of years ago.

What is your real problem?
the merchant or Australia Post?
I've just checked the Aust Post Web site,
an unpadded 500g pre-paid plastic sachel is $7.20, add a "small padded bag [about $1.20] and a little bubble wrap" and tape and $9.90 is starting to look a lot like what the retailer will have to pay just for the materials.
If they pop the goods in a 500g express post sachel [cost $9.55], the quoted $9.90 is starting to look very much like what Aust Post wants to get the goods from the merchant's local post office to your local post office.regards from Alberta, Canada
