Tung Oil - bowls & turnings
I want to make my own Tung Oil Finish. Ok so Ive got some pure Tung oil (yes it is the real deal) and the info advises the following:
1) 50:50 thin with Citric Terpene (eg can come from orange or marmalade skins)
2) Day 1 Coat 1 - totally wet area and leave for 30min - make sure wet all over\
3) Day 2 Coat 1 Vigorously wipe of excess and re-wet areas that take up quickly then wipe down and don't leave ponds
4) Day 2 Coat 2 - re-coat but make thinner
5) Day three same (thin more as you go)
6) Day four same (thin more as you go)
7) Day seven - starts to harden
8) Day 14 - (hard) buff with soft woolen carpet (if you want)
9) Day 21- 28 goes to maximum hardness
The question - can any one add to this... eg additives, times handy things you've learn ..methods suitable for turnings and or other furniture
Ok why bother. I guess because Im always interested in trying new things
Ive tried many other tung oil derivatives and U-beaut (great stuff by the way)

Surprised the info recommends successively thinner coats. I start with thin coats (for penetration) and finish with pure tung
