Suki's Gone

Well one on the hardest things I have ever had to do was to put Suki to sleep.

For those that have not met Suki when they have come to the shop she was a 13 year old Pomerainian cross japanese spitz.

We have known for some time that life for the little girl was not good, arthritis from only having 3 legs and dementer{spelling} setting in, incontinance, you no all the things that start to go wrong in old age.
The hardest part was looking at the dark eyes and no response coming back.

Some days like today she was great but other days she would go round in circles .

I left the final decision up to Irene and she decided today was a nice day so we arranged with the vet to come to our place, Young lee was home and watched all that was going on, there was not a dry eye in the house.

Now we keep looking at her bed and it is empty like our hearts.

I am all pro euthanasia but it still really sucks when it happens

We have her buried down the back now to carve a nice marker for her

Jim,
I know exactly how you feel.
The decision to euthanse our BC Nell was the hardest yet most obvious decision we've made in a very long time. I reckon I shed more tears for her than I have for some close relatives. That's not to say the rellies were not important but pets give absolute trust and unconditional love and the decision to end their lives seems so one sided. She's be gone over a week now but we and our other BC Toby still look for her out of habit.
The one thing I have done to rationalise it in my head is to remind myself that it was what was best for her and not me. The pet is the one that is suffering and it is up to us to end it - we owe them that much.

Sorry to hear that Jim. We had to put down our 13year old cat last week, and understand what a nasty experience it is.

However, the greatest love you can give your pet, is to not let it suffer.

You are right Ian we had to put her first as it would have been easier to let her suffer longer but with no quality of life not fair at all.

Sorry to hear about this. Ours had to be put down almost 2 years ago after a severe stroke which left paralyzed down one side. Worst was I was OS at the time. All the best.

Its certainly not something you want do to, but I'm sure that Suki would be thanking you for it.

I cannot understand dragging on loved pets lives for the sake of our own. With this in mind you not only made the hardest decision, but the right one.

I'm sure she will never be forgotten.

Know exactly how you feel....have had to do it many times in our lifetime and it does not get any easier, believe me.

Maybe this poem will make it a little easier....am sitting typing this and looking at a photo of one of them we lost, with the poem in the same frame.

Sorry to hear Jim (and Irene) ! My dog is really annoying, but I'm sure I will miss her if she isn't there to drive my nuts.
