Type of ash tree?

People, I have collected these seeds and their pods hoping someone will identify them for me. I believe then to be type of ash. Damien.new 040.JPGnew 042.JPG

People, I have completed some research and I am rather sure I have Firewheel tree seeds. I will try to grow these. Damien.

Damien, Yes they are definitely a Flindersia commonly know as Ash. Silver Ash [SA]is dropping its seeds at the moment but they are probably not that because the SA seed pod opens right back on itself. It is also not Crow's Ash as they are a little different. It is not Maple as they are not dropping seeds at the moment. It just might be Bennetts Ash but it is one I'm not so sure about. Flindersia bennettiana. My suggestion would be to get from the library a rainforest tree book such as Rainforest Trees by Floyd, Trees and Shrubs in Rainforests of NSW and south Qld by Williams, Harden and McDonald or Aust Rainforest Trees by Francis. This year at the moment there is a massive dropping of Silver Ash seeds. It is a tree that pioneers the open ground.

Queensland Maple. Noticed one dropping seed at Sunnybank (Brisbane) recently.

I thought it was Qld Maple too...most Flindersia seeds have a prickly surface,whereas Qld Maple is smooth but lumpy like this one...MM

Groovers, I know the seeds are not Crows ash as the pod for a Crows Ash is prickly. These pods are not. Qld maple could be possible as they came from a farm forestry plot started by the DPI at Mt Mee. I will look further into it. Damien.
