Spirit levels - best brands (including digital levels)
Hi,
I have always been told Stabila is the top of the line for spirit levels (including digital spirit levels) - they are certainly the most expensive. But a thread on this forum (dated 2006) was pretty harsh on Stabila with a few guys commenting that they were not what they used to be.
I would love to get an update on this. I was thinking about buying a digital level from Stabila (about $315) but Bosch and others do much cheaper ones. Is Stabila the best?
Also, any thoughts on Stabila line lasers vs their competition (specifically the LAX200)?
Cheers
John

We have a CMI CX304R crosshair laser at work for kitchen and cabinet fitouts as well as wall panel installation and it has worked very well for the past 3 years, never needed calibration or any other maintenance.
It's got 4 floor-to-ceiling vertical and 1 horizontal lines (independently selectable) and plumb dot straight down (the verticals meet to do plumb up as well), also self leveling and comes with a remote, glasses (sensational in high light areas where seeing the beam is hard) and a beam detector for outdoors as well. Runs on 3 AA batteries that last many hours and has a tripod thread.
They go for about $1k but its been worth its weight in gold.

Levels
I have 3 levels..1.2 m stabila and 2m stabila also a 2.7m BMI also made in Germany. I think the BMI is a way better level than the stabila.
