white oregon turned yellow after deck oil
Hi all,
I painted some fEAST&WATSON decking oil (not water based) on some oragon which had a white colour after applying the thicknesser and the wood turned yellow. The paint shop guy said this was the stuff to preserve wood colour.
Is this the best wood colour preservation I can get, or can someone recommend a clearer finish product.
PS - I know oregon is not rated as an outdoor timber but I was sentimental about using it since I recycled it from my old demolished house.(and it cost nothing)
Cheers
Zanne

99.9% of deck oils have a pigment in them.. This is what your seeing in the colour change and its this pigment that helps the products life and also makes someones tired old timber look better after they apply the product.. Wattyl's was pretty close to clear last i looked but only lasts 4 - 6 months.... There is another company from the states that makes BLOCK lOK and they make a crystal clear but its not an oil and i cant vouch for it as i haven't used it
cheers utemad
