Default OF 1400 question for Anthony

Festool had a package deal (OF 1400 + CMS base + Router top) at the Sydney WWW show which I couldn't resist

so now that I own a very nice mid sized router and very nice router table what are the pros and cons of using the rebating head (part No 489284) and spindle (part No. 490131) with the 1400?

    Nice kit.

I don't know the answer to this one really. Because I have not set up and used the rebate head as yet. Let me do that and report back. I am interested to see how it performs compared to a regular rebate bit.

    Hi Ian,

Well it arrived from Germany and I finally had a chance to try this rebating head and spindle out combo.

I was using it mounted in a CMS router module with OF2200 providing the power.

The rotateable/replaceable blades are very sharp, enough to nick me a few times whilst putting it together and into the table. The attached images show the quality of cut in both softwood and hardwood. The chip-out on the thin ridge of the cross-grain sample was already there before routing.

I did not measure, but the depth of cut is about 10mm, all routing done in a single pass. My feed speed was reasonably quick using a push-stick. It was easy going and excellent results I think.

Can we get some gory photos of the cut quality in flesh?

Nar, Anthony never likes to show any chip out.
    Cheers,
