    Default Water based Lacquers

Hi all, I have just read about a water based lacquer that is availalbe in North America call Oxford Ultima Spray Lacquer. It comes from Target Coatings who can be found at http://www.targetcoatings.com. See also: http://www.woodessence.com/Targetdefault.html

They make a point of saying they are ideal for high quality high gloss finishes for musical instruments and that is why I'm onterested - for finishing guitars. A bloke I know here in WA has bought some water based lacquer that he imported from the US for the same purpose (but different brand I think).

It sounds like the answer to a lot of finishing dreams: a fast drying lacquer that gives a high quality finish from satin to gloss that is environmentally friendly and far less damaging to the health of the user.

Does anyone know whether such a product can be found/bought here in Oz? I have put in an inquiry to Target but got no response as yet.

I recently tried some Solver clear acyrlic applied by padding. Very impressed in the finish even though its not a spraying lacquer. It goes on well with a gun too.
Biggest downside is drying time as you really need to let every 2nd coat dry overnight.

    Smile Water Based Lacquers

    Hi,

I too was drawn in by the user reports of Target products, however, I'm not aware of anyone who imports them to Australia. One manufacturer who does make WB lacquers here though is Akzo Nobel (located in Melbourne). They have a distributor in Canberra that I have used. The product (Akzolac) comes in a few gloss levels and sprays well from my experience. Given them a call and see how you go. Look up Akzo in the electronic whitepages to get the phone number.

    Regards,
    Nick
