We have a sunroom extension to the house that has an internal beam across the middle of the room (see photo) with different ceilings heights either side. The beam forms the perimeter of the original house and is supporting the roof rafters and ceiling joists. ie. It is the equivalent support as an external wall. We need to remove this beam and level up ceilings for our plan to move kitchen there. So up in the roof it is for support.

Span is 4 mtrs.

My initial idea is to install an underpurlin x* distance back from the perimeter, place a strutting beam from wall to wall and place struts y* distance apart to support purlin. I would hope the strutting beam will also act as a combined hanging beam. I obviously will have to get sizes from span tables.

Does this sound like a reasonable and acceptable solution? Any other options?
