My names Bleedin Thumb..and I'm an alcoholic
Hi all,
My doctor recons that if you are drinking more than 4 standard drinks a day that you have a drinking problem.
Well 4 standard drinks = 2.85 stubbies
or 1.3 glasses of wine by my calculations.
so my questions are
1.Who came up with this figure?
2. What planet do they come from?
3. If they invited you over for a party would you go?
4. How many standard drinks are there in a bottle of Metho?
5. Does putting an umbrella in your drink render it non-standard so OK?

Yep it is truely a farce. I managed a bar and one of my workers was charged with serving alcohol to intoxicated persons.
We were all questioned and questioned again. In the end I told these gits that to the letter of the law I can only serve a person one drink and then no longer can they be served as technically they are already 'intoxicated'. To this this person had no argument. Such a crap law should not exist.

The code, section 8.3.6 to 8.3.10 doesn't say anything about 'standard' but section 8.3.9.2 says that any drink with a little umbrella shall not be consumed by blokes in or near sheds.
I know it doesn't answer your question but it does shed (no pun intended) some light on what to do about that umbrella idea.Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

How about a foil umbrella?

Pluto
Hey Bleedin,
I have the answer to Q2. It would be Pluto, as Pluto is no longer a planet, it doesn't count and nor do they.
Cheers

1.3 glasses wine????
How big are your glasses? I presume we're talking about schooners.
Who sets these 'standards'? Some nerdy, academic I expect, looking to get published and thus increase his hold on tenure, so's he don't have to get a real job and (God forbid) face some risk and actually do some work.
Its my liver and I'll keep it busy, thanks.
Anyway, what a waste to go to your grave with a perfectly functional liver.Bodgy

Sorry, but that's how it is. It's a sign of alcoholic dependency. In the same way that regular use of cocaine or methamphetamine or heroin would indicate you have a drug problem.
If you usually have more than four drinks a day but can go a week without any at all, you don't have a problem.
AND, so you don't get the wrong idea, you'd be welcome at my next bar-b-que

Gidday
You gotta give..........that grog away!
You gotta give..........that grog away!!!!
I work daily with drug addicts n alcoholics and get a constant reminder of how dangerous any drug is.
Its frightening too see just how effective a street labotomy can be with most of the people I work with being truely (*#%@($@%)$#%_ UP! until they have some time off what ever there into to get better.
Alcohol effects ever major system of the body n if you have to much to often you'll pay the price......................eventually
If your not sure if you have a problem give up for 6 months. If you think about or crav grog you'll know your gone!!!
2 standard drinks per night is considered safe anything above this is doing you damage
