Recoating a floor using "no-sand primer"
Forgive me if this topic has already been discussed, but I have only recently come across the product called 'Cabots no-sand CFP Primer', which claims to solve the problem of having to sand off the old seal completely before recoating a timber floor with new coats of water-based clear finish. It sounds too good to be true.
Our floors are 25-year old Tasmanian Oak that have already had two episodes of two-component polyurethane finish -- the conventional wisdom at the time. That is, they have now been sanded twice, and I am very reluctant to have to sand off the old finish completely. Not only is this a very dirty and disruptive procedure, but it also reduces the thickness and strength of the tounge-and-groove eucalypt flooring.
With this "no-sand" primer, the claim is that it allows the new water-based finish (which is supposed to be very hard-wearing) to "take" over the old oil-based finish -- it forms a compatible layer between the old and new finishes.
Does anyone already have some experience with this product. In other words, does it work well?
If it does, then it will allow me to reseal our floors a room at a time.
