Hi all
I am thinking of inserting a new single door into an internal brick wall. So I have a list of questions which I have tried searching this forum and googled but to no real joy.

The sequence as I see it goes like this:
  • Send wife and kids out for the day
  • reveal brickwork beneath plaster at the top of the wall where lintel should go
  • grind, chisel, cut out mortar through brick to width of lintel
  • Whats the best method for removing this line of mortar?
  • slide lintel into place
  • How is this fixed into place. Mortar?
  • Are there regs for how far into the brickwork either side of the door space the bar needs to go?
  • Cut door space out beneath lintel and remove bricks down to slab
  • clean up edges
  • insert wood framework
  • drill and fix to brick with screws/spagetti
  • How do you fix sill to concrete slab?
  • How do you fit the door framework to the steel lintel?
I hope this makes sense! I would have thought there was a web site explaining this process but had no luck.

If you have additional points or observations please let me know.
Many thanks
