Default Finish for a pine cutlery draw insert

    Hi

I've made a pine cutlery draw insert and want to protect it from water in case people dont dry up properly, and I also want to make sure what I use wont rub onto the cutlery and cause health issues.

Having read a thread that suggested using U-beauts hard shellac for a tea tray, I thought it might be good in this instance also.

First question is, before I assembled it I gave it a coat of boiled linssed oil. Can I apply hard shellac over the top?

Second question, is hard shellac safe to use around cutlery?

Third, will it protect the very non-durable pine?

    Thanks
    Tom

Wait until the linseed smell has gone, then put on a couple of coats of UBeaut's Hard Shellac. Yes, Hard Shellac is safe around cutlery.

    cheers

    Cheers Wendy.

It'll be my first introduction to shellac. Should be a learning experience at the least!

    a couple of further questions.

do i need to sand in between coats?

also, it says wait three weeks for the shellac to cure. do i need to wait for it to cure before I apply the second and three coats?

    cheers.
