Crystal Veneer
G'day all. Wattyl used to sell a product called "Crystal Veneer", which I am told by those who should know was about the best reviver they have ever used. Wattyl have deleted the line and it is now unprocurable. Does anyone know the formula for it? Can anyone who previously used Crystal Veneer recommend a product that they have found to be as good?
Thanks
A

Our old french polisher (from when I had the school of woodcrafts) did his apprenticeship with the man who started Wattyl. His story was that Crystal Veneer was their first product and what the company was founded on. Like I said - His story. No idea how much truth there was in it but no reason to doubt him.
About 10 years ago I tried to buy the formula from Wattyl years ago. OOPS! Sorry we've lost it.
Closest thing I've ever come across since is our Polish Reviver. Doesn't have the same chemical cut or the almost almond essence smell Crystal Veneer had but it does give the surface something that I believe Crystal Veneer and other reviver's don't and that's a very high resistance to marking from Alcohol, water and heat.
It also removes old buildups of wax, dirt, smoke and other contaminates incluging Mr Sheen. It will remove water marks and in mostinstances will remove or at worst fade white marks from heat and alcohol, not only on french polished surfaces but also on most lacquered and varnished surfaces and even polyurethane
Hope this is of some help to you.

Thanks Neil, I'll pick some up from you. Do you have an outlet in NSW or is mail order the best option?

Resurrection
I know that this thread hasn't been alive for 14 years, but this seemed the best place to put this post.
I have been cleaning up the collection of "stuff" in Mum and Dad's house in preparation for settlement of its sale in a couple of weeks.
Among the various bottles and jars of mysterious lotions and potions in the broom cupboard, I found a bottle of Crystal Veneer. IMG_1093.jpg
Since it has a BBC Hardware label on it (and a decimal currency price), I would say it was bought by my Dad in the 70's or 80's.
I tried a little on a french polished surface and it didn't harm it and did seem to brighten it a bit (but meths may have done the same).
If some chemist wants a sample to try to work out what the formula was (since Wattyl don't seem to have it anymore), I'd be happy to send a sample.Cheers
Jeremy
