Help with wood selection
Hi, Forgive me I am new at this. I would like to make some simple kitchen chairs for home and I have found some plans but I am unsure what wood to use. As this is my first project and the chairs are very basic and they will be painted white to match our current kitchen table.
Can I use non structural pine or am I way off.

You will get a better answer if you are also able to show your plans.
The only chair I have made used plain 19mm pine, ply and two pieces of hardwood, (could have used pine) to support the back.
I will go out on a limb, having not seen the plans or the likely weight of the end user and say yes, but just watch for knots and anything else that might be a weakness.

Without seeing your plans, or knowing the users weight/propensity to rock back on a chair, using non-structural pine is likely to end in tears.
as a first project a chair will likely have a very steep learning curveregards from Alberta, Canada

Thanks for the comments. This is the chair I was considering making http://ana-white.com/2011/01/classic...de-simple.html
It looks relatively straight forward.
