Unknown bird
Hopefully some one will see this post and help me. This is the first time I have seen this species of little bird. It is on the Atherton Tablelands, 65km south west from Cairns. It has dug a hole in a soft earth bank and is taking nest making stuff into the hole.

The stick it is sitting on is about 19mm thick, so it is quite small.

We have similar on our property outside Melbourne. Nests in a hole.
I always thought that they were Finches, but I stand to be corrected.

Thanks Dusteater, I think now the bird is a striated pardalote. Thanks for the heads up.
