Re-use, a feel good day
Over the last few weeks, without actually trying, I ended up buying 2 steel boxes from various collectable shops. One box was an old film canister. There had been 2 in the shop, both were roughly marked with (presumably) the last film they contained. The one I bought had been left on the shelf and was marked "TAXI" whereas the other sold very quickly and was marked "LAST TANGO IN PARIS"? I guess there must be a lot of tango fans in the World ?
The latch area was corroded but a wipe down with vinegar got rid of the powder and a quick spray with grey primer will protect the exposed steel

It was covered with (now) blank paper taped to the body with as much tape as a gig poster is stuck to a streetlight pole!

but removing these old (presumed) labels and tape, also removed "TAXI" so, once I had cleaned it up, I replaced it and added my name ready for its re-use,

The second box was a WWII ammunition box hiding under multiple coats of yellow house paint. Once I had stripped the paint I repainted it in a green that closely matched the original colour

I picked out its original labelling, and added HEGNER in an appropriate military script to signify its new role, a safe home for my Hegner finger jointer.
Both boxes are now storing various bits of equipment and look pretty pleased with themselves.

What a memory jolt Fletty!!!
As a kid these would be delivered to the local cinema with that weeks films and the Movietone News reels.
Funny thing is they sat out one the footpath after delivery and before pick-up for return but were never
touched by anyone but the theatre owner. A tetament to small town living I guess.
Great to see them re-used!!!

It's funny you should say that Artme, a few weeks ago I had a wander around the previously tarnished Redfern and noticed just how much it has changed. There has always been the 'village' side and the "other' side of Redfern but both sides now have a very different feel but without stifling its uniqueness.

One of the greatest indicators of change for me was that I passed an unopened coffee shop fairly early on a Sunday morning but they were now able to leave the furniture out overnight and it would still be there the next morning! In the 'old days' they would have lost the furniture and possibly even the shop......!

PS, to my Novacastrian mates Scally, Claw Hama etc, now you know why I like Cooks Hill SO much!a rock is an obsolete tool ......... until you don’t have a hammer!
