    Default Burl Musk and Burl Myrtle

    I am going to start breaking down some burl musk and myrtle into boards for boxes soon. I ran a couple of bits through the bandsaw today. Heres some pics.

    Wondering how big the 'burl' was,and are they a common occurrence on Musk trees? B.T.W, nice book matching...MM

    Burls on both Musk and Myrtle seem to be a fairly common occurrence. The burl Musk in the photo is from the smaller burls that grow on the main trunk. The best burl grows just above ground level and circles the trunk of the musk and can be quite massive. I will take some photos sometime of one in the bush, its pretty cool.

    The son bought a slab of myrtle Burl in Tas. about8 years ago. Wants to make a table.

    Here is a photo showing the burl that grows at the base of the musk. This one is about average size ( about 800mm wide), I have seen much bigger.
