Roman design chess set in Tassie Tiger Myrtle
Hallo again!
I have finished most of the Tiger Myrtle pieces for the chess set where the design was based on the Roman Collosseum and Roman Forum. The design is much more intricate than the standard set design. It takes longer to make the pieces, but the rewards are (I hope) obvious. The wood is pretty staggering. A couple of the pics include a Birdseye Huon piece that will make up the second half of the set pieces. The final pic shows a couple of the same design pieces but in Tassie Burl Myrtle. Still have to add the lead weight and felt to the bottom of most pieces, but progress has been good lately.
Cheers
Chris

Design & board
I guess there will always be connections to other places, but the guy who came up with the design used the old collosseum and other achitecture from old Rome as the basis. The king is a cross section of the collosseum and most other pieces , at least in the base, are derived from Roman collumns.
I usually make all the pieces before I start on the board and storage box.
Cheers
