Can anyone identify this wood
I bought some recycled Tassie Myrtle floorboards for a project.
These boards were among the ones I chose. Initially I thought they were tassie myrtle
but with a figure I had never seen in that wood.
On closer inspection it is quite different to myrtle.
It has a more open grain although it is quite hard as well.
The closest I could come up with is Karri, but I'm pretty sure it's not that.
So if anyone could identify it I would be appreciative.
Cheers
Frank

It does have some good weight to it issatree.
Leatherwood or indonesian kauri, will try and check them out further.
I like it whatever it turns out to be.
It might make sense if it is leatherwood turning up in a batch of tassie myrtle seeing as both are tassie trees
Cheers

Here's a photo of myrtle for comparison. The grain and feature looks similar to me. Myrtle will dis colour to a light tan/Brown colour, when exposed to daylight. then some of the poorer boards will have no colour from the start.

I have some ironbark that looks a bit like that. Very heavy, dense and hard as. Whatever it is, I like it.

Now I think it is probably myrtle with no colour. A nice trick would be to mix a stain which can make it match the better coloured wood.
