    Default Myrtle Box

    Hi all,

I got some South American Myrtle a little while ago that had a little bit of figure, so I made a desk box with it. Finish is burnished Teak Oil.

Yeah, there's just a "little bit" of figure there.

Any particular reason the front edge of the box is tapered? In the pix it sorta detracts from the box, in that it draws my eye away from the timber... (It might not be as distracting in reality, but I only have the pix to go by. )
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

    Hi Andy,
The top is tapered to allow you to open it from the front. It's not such a distraction in real life, partly because the figure is just overwhelming!

That timber, Rob, looks incredibly "busy". Yet I just love the way it's been downplayed by using a (deceptively) plain design. I'm not quite sure how you've managed to hinge and hinge-stop it, but it's all really nicely done and it all works beautifully.

I'm also guessing it's one of your trademark Teak Oil HBO finishes since the grain just stands out and screams "look at me!"

    Well done!
"Come sit down beside me" I said to myself, and although it didn't make sense,
I held my own hand as a small sign of trust, and together I sat on the fence.
